tap..tap...TAP goes the valve!

All right guys need some help. I've got a quad I use for launching and running around the lake on that has an issue. I lost the D#mn lock nut on the intake valve!! It is in the motor some where but I can't find it! Checked the head and drained the oil but no go. Any ideas on retrieving without splitting the case? Really hate to put the effort in to this thing so hoping someone has some ideas.

It is an older Yamaha warrior. And this happened while riding on the ice a few weeks ago. No other damage that I can tell...and the wierd thing is it still runs even though you can't even tell the intake valve is opening.

seriously though.. If it's in the engine. it fell down with the cam chain.. you HAVE to get it out. I know it sux. but leaving it as is is taking one helluva risk that you are going to do Major damage.

I dropped a bolt one time and thought it went in the motor.. tore it down, no bolt. I found it a week later in the driveway, and have no Idea how it got over 30' from where I dropped it.
