SX/SXi/SXi Pro SXI Pro Falling on it's face

Searched and did not find anything answering what is happening with my 2002 SXI Pro.

I just rebuilt my carbs using the genuine Mikuni kits. My pop off is 34 psi in both carbs. I started with my low speed screw set at 1/2 turn out and high speed at 1 turn out as per the service manual. Ski will start up and idle but falls on it face the second I touch the throttle. I adjusted the low speed screw up by 1/8 turn on each carb until it was @ 2 + turns out on each carb. Ski will idle best at 7/8 turn out but will idle fine all the way up to 2+ turns out. Still falls on its face when I touch throttle. I can get it past this by choking slightly and then it rips up to full throttle but anytime I let off below 1/4 throttle it will die.

My ski has stock jets. I am not sure what size (forgot to look). Do I need a different low speed jet? Fuel filters are not clogged. I am stumped.

Either the check valves on the back of the jet covers are damaged or you have an air leak somewhere or if you changed popoff springs when you rebuilt the carbs put the old ones back in.

I know EXACTLY what your problem is..... POP OFF TOO HIGH!!!! I had the same issue a few weeks ago after rebuilding my carbs. You verified your issue by choking it to make the engine rev, by choking it you raise the vacuum in the carb forcing the pop offs to open. I had mine set at 29psi and it wouldnt run for crap. I lowered mine down to 21-22psi and it runs perfect. if your running the stock airbox you might need to be closer to 26-28psi. Hope that helps

My first guess was high popoff when I saw 34psi in both carbs, IIRC their supposed to be in the low 20's depending on setup..
