LAKE HAVASU CITY — Smoketree Elementary fourth grade teacher Bridget Hagest is always thinking of ways to stimulate the young minds of her students. And what better way to get students interested than to have them speak with a pair of world champions.

Chris and Rachel MacClugage, of Macc Racing, spoke to Hagest’s class Tuesday about their successes of professional personal watercraft racing, and how they turned their talents into a business. It’s all part of Hagest’s lesson plan on entrepreneurship.

Students are required to create a business of their own or with a business partner. Each team must create a business name, logo and slogan along with business cards, t-shirts and even the homepage of their own website and used the time with the MacClugages to ask about business success, when is the right time to start a business and how to obtain sponsorships.

After a brief classroom discussion on owning a business, the students made their way to the basketball court where they had the chance to look over the Macc Racing truck and trailer, with the distinctive Monster Energy logo and life size photo of Chris MacClugage on the side, and one of the MacClugages’ racing personal watercraft.

Each student received an autographed poster of Chris MacClugage. The MacClugage also donated Macc Racing apparel to give out to the best business idea. Business presentations will be given to the fourth grade class and winners will be determined Friday.

Chris MacClugage is a Hall of Fame racer and is 13–time world champion. Rachel MacClugage won her first world championship at the IJSBA World Finals at Crazy Horse Beach on Lake Havasu in 2009.

That is awesome. What a great project for the students.

I didn't really intend to be an entrepreneur myself, it just kinda happened when my real job disappeared.
