650/X-2 Still Dieseling...

Ok if youve read one of my previous posts you'd see the problems ive been having.... So the past few days I rebuilt my 44mm mikuni ( complete rebuild with 150 high 120 low 80 gem spring and a 2.0 pop off), replaced my intake/carb gasket and checked the reed gaskets. After everything appeared to be good I put it together. once again, it was hard to start. When it started it went full RPM's... and the same thing happened in the return full line, it was foamy gas... Im kind of at a loss right now and not sure where to start again.... any help would be great...

*** and thanks for the tip on hitting the throttle to stop it when dieseling, worked good!

Yeah i checked the reed gaskets and they looked fine..... I had a strong feeling it was an air leak... but now im not sure.... Would a base gasket or crank seals cause this problem... because i replaced the head gasket a couple of weeks ago....

100% its an air leak, I'd put my money on a crank seal. You need to do a leak down test and isolate where the leak is. Might be a good idea to just do a complete tear down and rebuild with all new gaskets/seals.

Well i ordered a complete gasket kit.... tomorrow its time to rip it apart and start fresh.... This will be my first time doing crank seals, hopefully its not as hard as it looks! Does any one know how to disconect the two wires that go inside the case without screwing something up?

If you are talking about the stator wires you disconnect them from inside the E-box, and then when you take the flywheel off the stator is there and you just unbolt it and the rubber seal that holds the wires and pull them through.

Crank seals aren't hard, just take the lower half of the case off (remove the flywheel and stator first) and push the old ones off the crank and put the new ones on and get them aligned and then just bolt the case back together. You'll need some threebond 1211 or equivalent to seal the cases back up.

I think all the companys that made that sort of thing are out of business. It's nothing more than a nicely shapped piece of aluminum with 2 holes in it and a gasket. Stock bolts hold the plate on. You could easily make one. It's made from aluminum about 1/4" thick.

I have one on my old 650 motor but I don't think I have a gasket that would fit it. You'd have to make one. PM if interested.

Try calling Blowsion, Riva, etc. Best deal would be to find one new.
