91 650 SN. Over the winter I installed a Coffman Sizzler, lightened the flywheel added a primer(removed shaft and plate). Rejetted per Coffman's suggestions:

2.0 Needle & Seat, a 125 Main Jet, and a 65 gram spring.

Got it started today. Smokes like a MFer WAY beyond the smoke just from the fogging oil. And black fuel smelling goo is just oozing out of the exhaust.

Seems like it is getting way too much fuel (maybe).

It won't rev high at all. And if I let off the throttle, it croaks. I am working the throttle right at the carb, because I don't have my finger throttle attached yet.

What the heck did I do wrong?

Oh, and I am running it on the stand, not in the water yet.

crankcase may have filled up with gas/ oil mixture which may have leaked past needle/seat. This may clear up, just don't overheat your engine while running it on the stand.

just let it run for a while

hook it to the hose and adjust the idle screw so that it keeps the engine alive. I bet it just has a shatload of oil in the crankcase

Yanked the carb and pulled it apart to do half assed pop off test. It does not leak prior or after popping, however about 2/3 of the time it hangs in the open position and does not reset.

Even the tinyiest tap on the spring side of the fulcrum releases it, but for the life of me, I can't find where it is getting hung up.

Brand new N&S by the way...

make sure the part of the "rocker" with the spring underneath it is level to the carb body around it. use a single edge blade for a straightedge.

What I am wondering is if once I have it situated back in the ski if it will still hang up? Since right now I have it laying on my tailgate with the N&S facing upwards.

Crap. Maybe I'll throw the stock N&S back in and see how it acts off the ski....
