I purchased a Slippery Sub-Zero drysuit back in 1999 and am now questioning whether to keep it in the closet for yet another year or sell it and be done with it. I got a few really good years out of it but usually only wore it 4-5 times a year for a few ice runs. Not much use for it now that I live in South Carolina, I near sweated to death in it even in 38deg water up north so I know it's way too hot to ever wear down here.
The problem with dry suits is the seals dry out from being stored. I hadn't worn it for a year or two and tore the wrist seals when I finally went to use it again. I had the wrist seals replaced at a dive shop and then tore the neck seal the very next time out so I have never worn it since. It has now sat in my closet for going on 3 years. I had heard of slippery doing a full overhaul on them before, free of charge but 1999 was the last year they were sold and they discontinued the parts years ago and can no longer repair it.
I don't even know if someone is interested in it anymore but I figured I'd ask. If you knew how to repair it or had someone else that did, it would be a great suit to have for colder climates. I fear that if I get it repaired, the seals would be dried out again before I ever got a chance to wear it again. I may be interested in repairing it if there were new types of seals available now that didn't dry out so quickly...
What do you guys think? Anyone interested? It is a size large which should fit up to 5'11" and 200 lbs. I'm 5'9" and around 195 and it fits me perfect.
I'll take it out and do an inspection on the zipper and seals and post some pics later.
