I purchased a Slippery Sub-Zero drysuit back in 1999 and am now questioning whether to keep it in the closet for yet another year or sell it and be done with it. I got a few really good years out of it but usually only wore it 4-5 times a year for a few ice runs. Not much use for it now that I live in South Carolina, I near sweated to death in it even in 38deg water up north so I know it's way too hot to ever wear down here.

The problem with dry suits is the seals dry out from being stored. I hadn't worn it for a year or two and tore the wrist seals when I finally went to use it again. I had the wrist seals replaced at a dive shop and then tore the neck seal the very next time out so I have never worn it since. It has now sat in my closet for going on 3 years. I had heard of slippery doing a full overhaul on them before, free of charge but 1999 was the last year they were sold and they discontinued the parts years ago and can no longer repair it.

I don't even know if someone is interested in it anymore but I figured I'd ask. If you knew how to repair it or had someone else that did, it would be a great suit to have for colder climates. I fear that if I get it repaired, the seals would be dried out again before I ever got a chance to wear it again. I may be interested in repairing it if there were new types of seals available now that didn't dry out so quickly...

What do you guys think? Anyone interested? It is a size large which should fit up to 5'11" and 200 lbs. I'm 5'9" and around 195 and it fits me perfect.

I'll take it out and do an inspection on the zipper and seals and post some pics later.

Yeah, that's the same one. How is yours holding up? Have you had anything replaced or were you just really diligent about storing and conditioning it?

I've replaced the wrists and neck once. The booties are cracked now but a little duct tape works wonders. I always hung it up though, just kept a hanger hanging from a garage rafter for it all the time.

Mine was always hung in a closet in the house but the last closet didn't have a door and got a few hours of sunlight a day so I'm sure that didn't help the seals at all.

You need to buy seal conditioner spray and regularly put some on the seals for storage.

Don't sell it.

After a few years in the south you will get pu$$yfied like the rest of us and seek warmth.

You may be right but even up north I didn't wear the suit as often as I would have thought. Give me a good wetsuit and I'm good to go.

I used to kick through the ice around my dock to get the ski out to the main channel on the first sunny days of spring. Just had my wetsuit and was eager to ride. 10 years of souther living has me shivering and panicking when someone mentions 50's.

I got a brand new w/tags Slippery sub zero last year and the seals went to crap the 1st time in the water. The glue had hardened and let go. Seals were still in one piece so I bought McNett AquaSeal and re-attached/glued them myself. I ankle seal got a tear from my toe nail and I used a piece of bicycle intertube to patch it and it is now good as new. Once I finally pulled all the seals and re-glued them all things have been good and I love mine.

I have the same suit and replaced some blown ankle seals with booties I got on ebay for like $50. They were pretty easy to install once I made a suitable form. I never treat the seals or zipper and they are all fine. I think the neck and wrist seals are around 10 years old now. It is definitely a great suit!
