650/X-2 should i put tubbies on my 650sx

Is it worth it, and will it make a big difference?

I doubt that anyone here has ever installed them on a 650. Tubbies pull down whenever they are in the water. 650s can only turn on edge at low-medium speeds, tubbies can increase its entry speed.

I wouldn't spend the money. There will be a difference, but its not going to turn it into a different boat, there's more wrong with the 650sx handling than tubbies will fix. I'd save the money and put it towards funds for a better platform.

Agree ^^^. I started out this sport in the late 80' on a 650sx.

But FYI. I put Tubby IIs on my sxi-pro and love them. Worth the money, noticable improvement.

If you are going to do it I suggest going with off-brand front sponsons, if it works for you please come back here and tell those that don't know because they haven't done it how good it works. :banghead:

I'll say this to add to my previous post. If you are set on staying with the 650 for a while by all means do it, it will probably help immensly and I'm sure alot of people would love to hear some feedback on it, cause damn near everyone has had or still has a 650 (myself included, mine was just rebuilt and is my backup/friend ski). But IMO if you have plans to move on to an SJ/SXR/SXI/ECT. in the near future it will probably end up being wasted money on a hull that you'll sell off or will be relegated to being ridden only when your others are broken or by inexperienced friends that won't really benefit from it anyway.

I had tubbies on my 650 that I made myself, I wouldn't have spent a couple hundred on them. They made a huge difference. As much as people dog the 650, I never heard a bad thing about my 650 after people rode it as far as handling went. Was it underpowered...yes. Can it be lightened and made into a fun ski to ride...yes. Tubbies along with hull shortening and a shorter pole totally changed the handling characteristics of the hull for the better.

650 sx sponsons

I put older style blowsion tubes on my daughers kawasaki 650sx and deepened the hull chines 3/4 of an inche because the 650sx has a problem with cornering traction unless you lay the ski on it side. These changes made a world of difference. feels more like an sxr in the rear without the added weight, ie has a light easly feeling in turning at the rear, but grips corners much better and turns QUICK!. I have a set of jet ski loui sponsons I will put on my 650sx when I have a little more time. If you have a warm spot in your heart for the Kawasaki 650sx, I would do it in a heartbeat.
