SCUBA, snorkeling and freediving

At the end of a day of riding a couple of weeks ago, Slutty and I strapped on some masks and snorkeled some rock piling/tide pools..

It was so much FUN!

We have since talked a couple of times about heading to the keys for a snorkeling trip..



I am not interested in diving 100 feet down....I want to dive to maybe 30-40 feet..this woudl be at reefs where we coud have snorkelers and divers together, noone being left out..


I did a bit of research and it seems Pennekamp park in Largo is the best spot around..Anyone been there?


I visited some friends in Tavernier key one time a few years ago, and we went to a reef that was about 5-6 miles offshore..there was NOONE around..

that is the experience I am looking for..Not the touristy dive trips etc etc...

Pennekamp is great but if touristy isn't what you want, avoid it.

I keep a snorkel and set of fins in my gear box. Awesome way to unwind after a long day of riding or just a welcome break on a long weekend. I just wish we had nicer water to play in liek you guys.

I've been on Hens & Chickens and a few other small reefs in that area.

Fun diving/snorkeling and the recommendations above are also good. Near-shore reefs do get blown out easily, so always have a back-up plan.
