Super Jet sbt any luck

ok so i need a new engine for my 701 sj and when i saw i could pick one up crank and all for 500dollars seems like a pretty good deal but have read some bad and some good things about sbt i need at least pistons and new bore so looking at close to 300 for that so is it worth the 200 for the one year waranty and when you do use the waranty is there any hidden fees or is it 100% covered gonna have to sell my msd total loss and speedworx to fund this one so wana do it rite thanks

SBT is SBT and always keep in mind that you will get what you pay for. For the price, their trade in system is pretty hard to beat. You send them your beat up junk, they send you a rebuilt motor. It seems that the quality of their builds have improved and I would run their two cylinder two stroke motors. However if it came to a 4 stroke, I would probably look elsewhere. Of course this is all personal opinion and preference. If I can build something myself using my choice of parts, I typically choose to go that route.

Keep in mind that you need to figure in shipping costs as well since you will need to send your core motor to them.

One of our guys was breaking in a SBT motor, and the crank went out after 10 minutes of idling on the hose. They told him that they wont cover the '1 year' warranty.

SBT = Stuff Breaks Today.

For quality, you can't beat OEM.

For starters...why breaking in on a hose? Seems a bit strange to break a motor in with no load on it.

Secondly they pretty well warranty everything as long as you didnt void the motor by opening it up...its a no fault warranty...

Well one of my other questions was just awnsered if I put my girdled head on would it void it guess so and shipping well was gonna have my friend take it with him next weekend down south and trade it and get the new one but what's the best luck with pistons if I rebuild myself

I'd use a wiseco topend. Most other's will say ProX or OEM. Search and you'll find pros and cons, etc. for each.

Easiest way would be to find a shop to cleanup and measure your cylinders and to order you the correct size kit. Then take it home and put it all together yourself.

They can't even make a flywheel puller that works. Given that, I doubt I would ever buy motor parts from them.

why would you run 10 minutes on the hose?
the pump will have no cooling and not good for the bearings.
back the trailer into the water!
did they void the warranty because it was run on the hose?
a guy I know had them build a 640 TS motor, they put in crank seals backwards.
It was cheaper to crack the block and put in new seals correctly than pay the shipping to and fro for them to fix their f/u

SBT is the largest engine and pwc crank rebuilder in the world. A company that does that kind of volume will have some defective products and failures.
Plenty of customer sbt 'horror' stories are out there.

They started out as a crank rebuilding company and hold several patents for their equipment and procedures to rebuild/realign and true oem cranks. We have sold at least 100 cranks this year with only a few problems.

We carry lots of their products and are happy with most of them. We have asked them to make little changes and they are eager to improve anything brought to their attention.

I'd buy their crank and a top end kit from somewhere else and put it together yourself.

This is good advice. Their engines are designed for average couch riders, not high performance, high compression freestyle abuse. Get a sbt crank and use prox or wiseco pistons.

Yea, that seems like BS, I thought it was a no fault one year warranty.

This sounds like total BS to me also. We have never had a problem getting defective sbt product covered under warranty including obvious customer abuse. They seem to be genuinely concerned with making things right and fixing problems as they arise.

For quality, you can't beat oem for some parts, but already there are superior a/m new and refurb. products in motor mounts, coils, pumps, impellers, etc.

How much price escalation in oem parts will wel bear before you seek a/m alternatives?

Especially in light of yamaha/kawi inevitably or already pulling out of standup market and oem parts supplies dwindling.

We should all be supportive of a/m products to ensure the continued growth and viability of freeride.

i have had great luck with them on motors. Thats STOCK only no mods done. If you plane on using it as stock then i would not think twice of using them.

2 GP800 100 hrs
1 gp1200 30 hrs then sold
3 62T 61x not sure
1 787 rotax 50 hrs blew up replaced and 20 hrs then sold. Blew up by USER fault no issues on replacement
1 951 rotax 50 hrs plus and still ridin by fellow rider i helped put it in.

Used many cranks and good luck so far. Again stock only.
Used many 66E sleeved cylinders / pistons combos.

Not so good luck with there pump bearings, they rusted out real quick with very little use.

If STOCK based i use them anything else NO and go else were. many options out there depending on what you want and budget

thats my 2 cents

I agree on the points made by JETMANIAC and WB800BLASTER. I have some insight into their operation, they are much bigger than a lot of people realize. Their volume during the season is insane.

If you plan on running basically stock I would use select parts from them including their cranks.

I have had a few issues over the years ,most were a long long time ago, no real horror stories to tell, but then I have installed an a$$load of engines and crankshafts over the last 12 years. I prefer to build the engine myself if the case are good, that way I get the say so on the piston mfg, piston to wall clearance, gaskets etc, I would say the engines I build last longer and run better but I can't hand out two year warranties like SBT does so if you want the warranty I tell people to go with them.

well got my motor out today whole side skirt of the piston broke off and sent metal all in my crank so gonna guess it probably will need replaced to would a b pipe and duall 44s with lightened flywheel be ok to use on that motor would leave to stock head on there and after the warranty ran out put girdled ada head on i just wana ride but so tired of workin on my ski more than i get to ride it thanks for all the input
