Questions abouta B Pipe install

Hey guys, I have a chance to pick up a second hand factory b pipe (limited chamber). I have a few questions. 1. Is changing the jetting a must. Are b pipes easy to install, I have a basic understanding of engines etc. My ski is an 05 SJ with a completley stock 701 with stock air intake etc.
Thanks for your replys :)

Youll love it.

Jetting has to be redone,it might run,but not very good.

Easy to install??

Whats your idea of easy? Its not that bad,but its not real bad. Just be patient and take your time fitting the chamber. Also youll have to pull your carbs off and drill the tamper caps to get to your mixture screws.

Search around in the techfaq, but the newer (like yours) stock carbs have brass plugs over the mixture screws that you have to drill and pull to adjust the screws. Its easier then it sounds. They are for EPA cause your not suppoused to adjust them or something like that. Theres a post in the techfaq about drilling them, basicly use a small bit and just drill through carefull not to go to deep, and then run a sheetmetal screw into the hole and pop them out. OR you can send your carbs off to some on that people here use(not sure the name) but the come back ready to go. Most people pull the factory screw and put in a t handle so adjustments in the ski are easier.

How long would you expect it to take for a jetski to do all the carb adjustments. I think i could install the b pipe + the cooling then pay someone to do the jets pop off pressure and all the rest of the carb things that have to be done

You can do it yourself very easily within a half an hour. (carbs)
Factory Pipe has jetting specs on their website.

Do you attach the cooling line from the pipe to the existing pisser on the ski or so you have to drill a new outlet?

you can keep the standard pisser or put a different one in no drilling

get that b pipe even if you where to pay someone to put the whole thing on and tune it
it would be worth it

The b pipe is 800 new zealand dollars which works out to be 650usd roughly? B pipes are near impossible to get hold of over here, so they sell for so damn much !

I found that with a new rubber coupler you are not going to slip it right on unless you are some kind of superhuman gorilla beast.
I boiled my new coupler for about 10-15 minutes, then ran it out to the garage, put it around the vise and opened the vise to stretch it out. MUCH easier to get it on then.
Gotta pull the battery box, and gas tank also to get the chamber in.
Don't let the carbs intimidate you, I'd rather rejet anyday over installing a pipe. Check out the FAQ section.

PITA.... period. i have removed mine a few dozen times literally. got it down to a few minutes but it is still a PITA!!!!

use windex on the coupler between the headpipe and chamber.

i actually connect the chamber to the waterbox first, then wiggle on the headpipe into the coupler already on the chamber, then tigthen the three headpipe bolts. after that, fully tighten all hose clamps.

Go to the factory pipe website they have really god installation instructions. Not that its easy but will be a lot easier with the instructions.

i recently heard to do it that way. i've always left the head pipe on the e-manifold, and it always took so long. Next time I may try it that way.

Yeah... def. use the windex... it works good. Make sure you get that 4" coupler to sit on both the headpipe and chamber well and tighten clamps well--> otherwise you will have a messy azz leak with a much of oil and junk in it... trust me... haha.

The jetting is really easy to replace. It will prob. take you an hour or two if you have never removed your carbs before or taken them apart...

You will prob. have to cut the rubber hose that goes to your waterbox too, but not sure as I have only installed pipes on blasters to this point... pretty much the same thing tho.

I cant remember if I needed to grind my 12mm wrench to put in any bolts on the exhaust... I usually just grind, bend my tools as needed during installs like that and get new ones later if necessary. Sometimes those exhaust bolts are a biatch..

Yep that is how I do it also only takes a few seconds to get the pipes together.

Edit well thats how I have Katie do it for me.

It might also do you some good to put you oven on lowest temp and put your coupler in it for a few minutes RIGHT before putting the stuff together... that may help a little if you have a hard time getting it on... but the windex might be enough as is...

i have a 12MM crecent dedicated to just B-pipe installs, grinded down perfectly.

i plan on giving it away with my b-pipe to the new owner.

windex for the coupler rocks. i think i read this back on pwctoday from a post by Big Kahuna before he started bashing me over there... he had a good idea though.

Can't we all just get along? :friday:

BTW- Mat101 - if you are installing or have mods other than the B-Pipe you may have to use slightly different jetting numbers than provided in the factory pipe directions... I think those numbers are if you are only installing the pipe
