FX-1 Questions about the pole bracket plastic cover things.

Anyone ever tried wrapping the plastic trim pieces in carbon? Ive seen a few skis that just filled the recesses and ran without the plastic covers but Id prefer to avoid glass work and gel coating on the hull. I was thinking about wrapping the two plastic parts in carbon and clear coating them. Any thoughts or other ideas? Mine are currently painted black but the purple is starting to show through from the wear

Sounds interesting, I would think adhesion might be a problem. but you could rough up the plastic and give the carbon fiber something to grip to. or create it like a removable cover and then glue it on. I am sure many people still using the stock plastic would like to cover it up to cover old plastic or just the purple. I would like to see it if you decide to do it.

I was thinking rough up the plastic real good and make sure to wrap the carbon around the edges securely so once it cures it pretty much holds it self on.

I definitely want to try it I just need to do a bit of research to find out what type of epoxy to use and what to clear coat it with. Does regular epoxy from US Composites dry completely clear?

I don't know about the epoxy.
what you could do is, do a small test on the inside of the plastic and see if it holds.
I figured you were planning on wrapping around, but then if it did come loose, it might,
you know, be like a loose cover.

the carbon will not adhere to that flexible plastic....now if you wanted to make a mold out of the pieces and then make carbon replacement parts that would work...

do like slutty says and use carbon vinyl.....you can rice your ski out in no time!
