Oily flywheel

hey there

I removed my flywheel cover last night to remove flywheel and get lightened, inside the casing I noticed a consistant amount of oily residue .. is this common? or is this a problem?

Definatly a leaking crank seal. The only lube that should be present is a small amount of grease on the nose and the rear of the bendix. If seals are not changed soon you will eventually damage the front main crankshaft bearing from the air leak.

yup sure does .....

whats involved in replacing seals?

in a nut shell:

splitting the case without removing topend (pistons even height)...change one seal in front, two in the rear with grease added where the seals ride on the crank....clean up both surfaces good with razor blade and lacquer thinner carefully avoiding too much debris into topend....seal case back with yamabond or threebond 1211 before bolting back up....
