It was a tough decision to go with the auto over the 5spd but I compromised with the wife since this one had a locker in it. It is loaded. It has every option you could get on the 98. The camping stuff and the dogs should fit in here a lot better than the jeep. As soon as its paid off (next year) Its getting a lift and some 33's.

Do they have enough power to put big azz wheels and tires on them and tow a ski? I have only driven one 4-runner and it was a DOG w/ stock wheels on it???????

what year 4runner did you drive? What motor was in it. It has 32s on it now so 33's wont be to much of a difference. Gearing is the important thing when you are going up in tire size. Right now it has 4.30 and 33s are about perfect for that gearing. I also has the 13 inch brakes so It should handle the highway great.

if it was a 95 it was the 3.0 with 150 hp. the 3.4s are great motors. 183hp in the 4runner and 190 in the tacomas. I still haven't figured that one out.

you should have seen the 4runner Chris use to have, original body style........ lifted with huge tires, it was a show truck............ the doors had been modified into Gull Wing opening...............

No doubt they look good and run forever, I just stayed away from them because lack of power frustrates me. But mind you I have only driven one so who knows maybe it was just messed up. I would think 183 HP would be sufficient but not good.

I use a mazda 626 for my tow vehicle. 1988 turbo 5spd w/4ws it has 190ft/lb stock, i estimate mine slightly over 200ft/lbs with intake, exhaust, coil etc... Tows skis, or sm trailers just fine and rocks on the highway.

Ill gladly trade the power for the reliability and economy, ive got faster things to drive, but why?

just to haul kids around, pull skis to the lake, get groceries. who needs it?
