My 90 650sx handles better than a superjet, why!!!?

i own both 650sx and superjet, both have stock ride plates and intake grates, when i ride my 650 i feel way more in control, on a superjet seems like i have to fight it to make it do what i want it to do as fast as making tight turns while keeping it stable.

One thing i noticed is the stock nossle on a superjet is longer than on my 650, also the hand pole is longer on a superjet, i wonder if those are the 2 major things that make a big difference. Id like to make my superjet handle and feel like my 650sx and do what i want it to do. also seems like the 650sx nossles has a bigger turning angle. can this be improved or should i just get the newer 750sx or the sxr 800 :[. do the square nose jets handle better?

The biggest factor is probably that you are more used to riding the 650sx than your superjet. They handle differently. Force yourself to ride the superjet for a few sessions and then see how you like it.

i mostly ride my superjet, i have about as much seat time on my superjet as the 650sx, and all my friends think so as well. different hull design? nossle extended longer on the SJ, longer steering pole on SJ.

I only have two hours experience on my SJ and I think it could out handle my 650. At this point I would be quicker on the 650 as I have been riding it for 18 years. Given time to adapt to the SJ I think I will be MUCH faster on it than the 650. The 650 turns very flat and wants to slide across the water. I can lay the SJ over much further without fear of sliding out from under me. My SJ does have R&D sponsons and a Jet Dynamics ride plate.

No offense to anyone (i know how sj guys get around here)....but, superjets don't really ride that well in stock form.

Sweet freestyle machine though.

I got on my '90 SN and it rides like a dream. :arms:
Better than my 750sx
But it has a ProTec plate/grate/pipe and a Skat imp which probably helps . . . .

Just my two cents but I think it depends on what you grew up riding. I started out on kawi's and feel that I really need to lean and adjust body weight to get them to carve. And do they!!! Where as the Yamaha just turns. Try to lean or lay the SJ over to much and it wants to slide where as the Kawi will just keep biting and coming around. But straight line...IMO...SJ is the stability king. So I guess for me it come down to if your out carving the Kawi does better for me and if is freestyle then the Yamaha.

I think the 650s handle like crap!! The have little steering throw and for some reason the hull seems to tip itself over Im not sure if its just me but it seems to start a lean when riding and there doesnt seem to be anything I can do to stop it. My SJ can easily out handle a 650. The SXR on the other hand feels like its on rails, they are an amazing ride and carve awesome.

they are useless in stock form... I would much rather ride a SXR in stock form than a SJ..

I have both skis (stock SJ & modded Kaw 650) as well and have let many novice and first time riders on both. My son and I are decent riders which are at the stage that we can ride well in surf and are attempting some tricks. Neither of us want to be the one stuck with the Kawasaki 650. All the other novice/first timers can only ride the Kawasaki and either fall off the SJ at the first turn or can't even stand up without falling off. One thing that I noticed when comparing the two is that when I turn the SJ It has power to straighen the ski up out of the turn. I can simply enter a tight slow turn and it has enough power to pull itself out without much body english or steering input. If I try the same technique with the Kaw it understeers (falls to inside of turn). If I try to turn the Sj like the Kaw it oversteers (falls to the outside of the turn). The Kaw is a lot faster once it is planed off.

I think it is simply riding style or the SJ has a performance/mechanical issue.

doesnt the SN jet handle better than SXR and SJ? im honestly debating if i should even invest any money into the SJ right now. since my 650 handles better with stock grate and stock plate, it also is way better in choppy water, so im really considering maybe buying a 750sx or SXR or SN 650 i bet all those 3 models handle better than SJ in stock form no?

Its very difficult to talk about the differences, mainly because few ever spent much time modifying and riding all those classics. Plus the ones who were there and did spend a lot of time/money on them are old guys now. I have a 650sx that is as good as it ever was. Its still fun but feels like riding a bar of soap.

650sx is a good ski, i had a lot of fun on mine as I came up on through the ranks, 550/650/ 750sxi pro/square nose, round nose/sxr/new superjet / and finally 4 stroke superjet

I always referred to mine as ridding a cork, however, My riding ability improved alot over the last 14 years. I still want to get my hands on a clean stock 550sx or Fx1. I always felt like I was riding a rocket on those. So sleek. So tipsy.
