MSD ?'s

So got a new enhancer to go in my stock fx-1

So with no mods besides a skat 19/24 do I leave the rev limit at factory setting?

With ada head 185lbs and FPP do I turn it up or leave it?

Thanks people:headbang:

turn it all the way up, and just get off the gas when the pump is out of the water.

its simple.

seriously, all of mine are set this way, and even my sons boat ( which he has been riding since he was 8) is set up this way, and its NEVER been an over revving issue/problem.

the rpms you gain over stock are most helpful though, especially with a pipe.

So basically as long as I'm not dumb and hold it wide open while unhooked I won't hurt the motor? WOT runs wont hurt it either? I mean it's only going to rev so much right?

When I received my MSD, I turned the rev limit all the way up (9K). I found this to be irritating as the engine would scream when I left the water. I guess I don't always like having to get off the throttle right away. Anyway, I set it back to the factory setting (8K) and I found that to be a better setting for me anyway. Just my input.....good luck.

You are not going to turn 8k on a 701 with those mods unless the pump is unhooked, esp with that prop. Hell, I don't think you'd even hit the stock limiter. So, setting it at 8k will do nothing but help protect your brap from a costly mistake.

If your engine was screaming when your pump left the water, and then you turned down the limiter to prevent that, you were loosing some brap when running.

I CANT stand hitting the rev limiter, it sounds like 2 stroke flatulence and makes me want to ram a boat into the beach and walk off.

all the msd enhancers I have came used, so I have no idea where the factory setting was.

so I set them to the max, and have not had a problem since.

True.....but I think the losses are minimal really (if any). I know a lot of guys run them at wide open at 9K and are happy with it. I could live with it also. I just prefer the sound and feel of the lower 8K setting.

right, as long as you arent actually hitting the limiter, I agree, no difference.

My wifes boat has the stock CDI ( until I change it SOON) and I cant stand to ride it!
it spends 90% of its time bouncing against the limiter..

the pump cavitates ( its an FX1)

and the little 61x motor goes from 1000rpm-7000 in a split second.

Ill try and find a video of it, you can hear the rpms hitting the top and dropping, hitting the top, and dropping.

it is VERY annoying.

if you arent hitting your limiter with a stock engine, you need more pipe, more compression, or a lower pitched impeller most likely.

My 650 boats were turning well over 7200 rpms also.

stock rev limiter on them was even worse ( 6500 I think)

ok so I adjusted it up and put the nut on.. I started feeling a slight resistance and by the time I got tbd wrench off it snapped.. I know someone has done this same ********, what do I need to do? Send it back or to msd? Or can it still be used, please tell me it can!!

OK forget the pictures. The threaded cone that encases the shaft is what split. When that happened the shaft would slide in and out of the hole which it's not supposed to do. So I got a small flat-head, stuck it in the shaft hole and turned it all the way clockwise till it stopped and then put the shaft back in and installed the MSD. Ski starts, and rev's so maybe everything will be ok!
Quick question, if it wasn't installed right it wouldn't start correct?
