Hey all - I've read through all of the posts I can find on porting, and looked at a lot of pictures, but i'm having trouble figuring out if i'm on the right path here -

Using the templates from racelogic , but don't know if i'm supposed to take a ton of material off to fuly widen the exaust port, or slowly taper in in from the outside of the template. fine line since i can see that there isn't a TON of material to work with due to the water jacket.

I have a sketch of what I'm trying to figure out and a couple pics of what i've done so far.

also curious if you guys are widening the entire exhaust channel or just the mouth of it near the piston.

Thanks for the input guys.

did you go to tech FAQ, find porting 101,201,301,401 thread, and read the entire thread (especially the home porting) ? when I bought those templates I used them for a few minutes, marked the outer edges with a marker, pulled the templates out of the way and began opening the ports based on the pics in that thread. what you are asking , about how far to go without getting into the jacket is the art of porting. I tapered mine out further than the template before it was over. look in the jacket area while feeling inside the port and get a feel for how much jacket you've got and how much you are comfortable with removing.
