i gotta stock 61x motor in my ski now that im gonna run for awhile. ill be milling the head or throwing on my ada head,b pipe, an enhancer, and probably throw on some reeds.
will the stock carb work well for this setup or should i spend the cash for a 46? i would need to rejet the 44 and get rid of the choke.

im tired of working on my ski and just wanna ride!

you can send the carb to WCF and have it bored to 48mm. thats what i have on 2 SJs, the b1 and 750 x2. its a very reliable and inexpensive, yet effective mod.

the short answer is yes i have very similar mods done, even a few more, and i ran the stock 44 without any problems. that being said i did notice a difference when i switched to a 46 although not a major one.

Work on getting the pump load just right, that can be worth more than any carb change. Keep the 44 and save for some port work.

Im in the same boat, similar mods. Took me half a season to jet my carb but it was due to a really fluky problem that I finally found, but I wonder what type of changes need to be made going from 44 to bored 46 or 48??

A nice carb makes a huge difference. I didn't believe it until I tried it.
A single Riva 48 Powerbomb over a stock 44SBN made a big difference. A single 48 Full Spectrum in its place was more of an improvement still.
I am going back to a lesser carb this year. The two FS 48's I was using as singles will get paired up as duals on my RN this year, so I don't have a carb for my wife's Square yet.
I'll probably get a retail 46 SBN, as I hear lots of good things about them.

Generally speaking, as you go with a larger throat carb, you will need lower popoff and similarly sized (if not bigger) jets.

I ran a 61x last year with the same mods(except stock reeds), and ended up with 142.5 main, 125 pilot, 1.5 N/S, and 115 gram spring. FP recommends jetting close to that with a 95g spring, but mine kept loading up with the lower pop off.
