Kawasaki and Yamaha coils, interchangeable?

We had terrible experiences with jss coil rewires,we got 4 at once and all of them were arcing in saltwater from the first use, they worked fine in fresh water, but lit up like firework show on the night time salt water spray test.I got a jss aftermarket start stop also and it failed in 3 seasons, the stop button craped out 3x faster than a new oem would have.

why do you need a aftermarket throttle drum for the kawi cable? are you talking about the round one that gives you more positions?

JSS never rode in salt nor did salt water sealing test. Not a jab, just a fact. That said, I did my own mod, probably not as nice and pretty as his, in fact it was fugly as hell but never failed, ran it for about 4 years. Still good, just sititng in a drawer.

As far as start stop goes, if you got more than a year, that includes OEM switches as well and you ride salt water then you have nothing to complain about.

I did my own originally on a s'jet coil, worked fine in fresh water but not salt, It took me over a year to find what it was, I'd stripped carbs, reeds, fuel, plugs galore! It wasn't til I got home 1 night and dropped the ski off at work, didn't turn the lights on and just fired it up for a last blip, that by chance I saw the spark arcing, just like a firework display. No matter how much I tried to insulate it I couldn't, it is though High Voltage.

That said my coil is exterior mounted, so maybe inside the stock box it would be ok.

The night test is run the engine and splash some salt water around the engine bay with the lights off. I have seen a spark track from the HT lead to the top adjuster screw on the B pipe manifold from a tiny nick in the outer sheath of the ht lead.
This can cause an intermittent misfire in salt which is impossible to find as it only happens when the leads sway towards the pipe!

Did you contact JSS about this issue? Curious what he said.

point I was making was with any electronic part if you get over a year, then good. They are hit or miss after a year. No set std on how long they (any elec part)will last.
