Don't rebuild it, buy a 701, sell the 650 motor (hopefully your crank is still good) you can get a couple hundred for it.

You'll love the ski.

500 is a good price considering the engine needs work.. squares usually range from 1500-2000 in running condition..

im sure the other guys will chime in shortly, you should consider putting a 701 engine in there while you be doing the same work..

The ski already has a pro-tec ride plate, stainless impellar, beautiful turf, Coffmans manifold and pipe, and a k&n flame arrestor. Am i able to keep the coffmans if i swap up to a 701?

you should be able to. you may just want to port match the coffmans manifold. Just ever so slightly bigger on the 701, nothing a dremel can't fix. I asked teh same question a few days ago.

yes it will work. best cases are the 62t, a couple hunderd dollars. x cases can be found for 100 or less. you will need a 61x cylinder, pistons, head, intake, and the carb will need to be rejetted. port the pipe like stated above. just use a 701 exhaust gasket to match the pipe up. put the gasket on the pipe lined up the the bolt holes. mark the pipe where the gasket does not match and dremel out. shouldn't be a lot to have to take out.

Does anyone know if some of these parts can be bought brand new from a yamaha dealer...a good buddy of mine is a mechanic at a yami dealer, just wondering if it is worth trying to get at cost?

depends on how much you want to spend? if he can get pricing for not much over used i would get the new, but if it is a lot more that buy used. all depends on your budget.

i've got a couple sets of 61x cases hanging around in good condition. let me know if you are interested. No hurry... they are not going anywhere. $60 shipped.

I sold the intake manifold and reed cages I had though.

Sounds good to me. Won't buy anything from the dealerships except for gaskets then, but i wont have the ski in my possession for another 2 1/2 weeks until i can pick it up from my cousin. Then the parts ordering will begin. This will be the 1st superjet in our group. There are two 650 sx's, a heavily modded 550, and a soon to be modded 550. Hoping to hold my own or own them.

You will need a cylender, piston & ring kit (OEM or PRO-X) 61X cases and intake mnfld w/ reeds and a head ( I would go aftermarket or milled stock on the head).
If the crank is good you can use it and the carb and all the electrics on the 701.

Your looking at about $600 to do the 701 if your crank is good using all used parts except pistons and gaskets.

If the crank is not good I would suggest just buying a complete 701 used.
