Im new to the scene, obviously. I replaced the solenoid and battery. It has a charge. I am getting the pop, click when hitting the start button. Bought a new starter, can anyone offer any advice on how to replace it?? I cannot locate the thing unless it is under the engine. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,

starter is under the exhaust pipe. follow the wire from the e box and you will find it. batt. cable goes from batt to e box then to starter. 2 bolts hold it in. if you are looking at the front of motor its to the right of the flywheel cover. if you have a factory pipe you will need to take the pipe off. dont forget to disconnect batt before messing around with it

FXI, thank you very much for your time and explanation. I put the new starter in and she fired up like a champ. I cannot wait to hit the lake. When I removed the old starter, I lost quite a bit of gear oil. How much does a 550 require, I was thinking about 3/4 of a quart? Thanks again and have a hell of a summer.

Ummmmmm someone has put oil in your front cover, there is not supposed to be any in there, you need to pull the front cover loose and drain it out,it may have led to the demise of your starter.

Alright, im retarded. Thanks for stopping me before I put oil in it. Im sure that was the cause of the original starters death.
