how much is an sxr rebuild gonna cost?

Bad day today...

My sx-r motor is locked up. I haven't done any troubleshooting yet. I'm really hoping there's just something in the pump (doubt it) but I won't have time to start tinkering for another few weeks. I looked on sbt's site and didn't see any 800 rebuild prices. How much is that going to cost me? How much more would it be to get a set up that rips more than a stock rebuild?

Bummer.

I've never took apart an engine before to start troubleshooting something like this. Where would I start? Is there a thread or a book or something I could read? I'm actually not that rattled because this is an excuse (likely an expensive one) for me to learn a lot more about wrenchin'.

I would start by pulling the plugs and maybe even the pump.
See if that gets your motor turning over.

How did your motor lock up in the first place ?

I rode it st. patty's day. Let my buddy try and ride it (he fell off enough to run the battery down - i'm sure it wasn't locked at this point because i watched him try to start it with the turning over getting weaker and weaker till the battery died, then threw it on the charger and it was below 50%) and didn't flush the motor out when I came out of the water. When I went to ride it about a month later (after recharging the battery) it wouldn't turn over at all. Just one click and pistons never moved. I thought it was just a bad battery so today I dropped a different batt in there and it was just the same click.

Took the plugs off so we didn't have to crank against compression and the same thing happened. the pistons looked good in there, a little gunk on one of them but they didn't move at all. I tried to turn the driveshaft with a vice grip but couldn't (i don't know if that would even be possible).

I'm guessing that there may have been some water in there from not running the motor after taking it out of the water on St. patty's? Maybe that rusted somewhere in there?

Pull the head off and take a looky look. Probably froze it up need a rebuild, but you never know. SBT crank 750/800...top end kit from Wiseco and bore it one size over... not that hard to do actually...

I'd say around $700 if you use an SBT crank... and get it bored at a local machine shop...order the piston kit first and they will say what to bore the cyllinder to.

i know i know no excuse. i thought it would be ok as long as it didn't freeze but i guess i learned that one the hard way. i mean there was just whatever water was in the cooling system that was in there it wasn't like it sunk or subbed then sat for a month.

what do I do when I get the heads off? I mean this is uncharted water for me. pun.
