Tightening down my Pro-Tec head and stripped a head bolt on my blaster 61x. I pulled it out with the aluminum threads still on the bolt.. Any recommendations on fixing it? I was researching Helicoils and found these timeserts. I have never tried either so wanted to see what everyone else has used with success?

I've used both and never had problems with either. Time Serts are a little easier install although they are both easy. They were also what was recommended in my marine diesel school and I've heard aviation as well so they may be a little tougher but once again never had a problem with a helicoil. Just don't hold any pressure down as you twist it in or it may skip a thread. You can tap a flat head screwdriver in and twist it out to try again though.

Helicoils work great, simple and cheap.

timecerts are more expensive and harder to find. Much larger in size, so be careful to set flush or oring sealing issues.

Time Serts come in different lengths which is another thing I like about them.

You do have to chamfer the top, but you just spin the chamfer tool until it stops cutting. You can't go too deep and it's simple to do.

I guess helicoils have more love than I thought. I just get nervous when it comes to something with as much pressure as the head, but it sounds like they will do just fine.

Redid all the threads in one of my old cylinders and I did it right and red loctited the helicoils in. Few weeks later pulled the head and a few started to be higher than the gasket surface. I'd say timecert is best bet.
