So I finally got my main engine to run great for the first time this year. :bs:
I updated some port work in the winter time, and changed from dual 44's to a single 48 Full Spectrum with Boyesed Rad Valves.
My Total loss had a couple small problems, which I Fixed a few weeks back. Second time out, the TL died altogether.
Alright, back to stock electrics. The next day it ran pretty poorly - small exhaust leak, but even after that was fixed, it was questionable.
So I pulled the engine, went over everything in the bilge, put everything back together nicely. I found that my boyesen reeds were all chewed to hell. So I replaced it with stock cages and CF reeds.
Damn, still no go. Runs like crap.
Found out last week that my coil was questionable at best, so I fixed that.
My second pulse fitting was leaking air very badly. Fixed that.
And finally, a grounding connection inside the ebox was spotty.
While putting things back together, the relay fell terminals down on the ebox (the metal part). Sssssmookin'!!!
Everything still looked good, though, so I gave it a go.
Took it out yesterday morning, and it ran fine for the first 100 yards out of the marina, and then quit. :bs2:
So, back to fixing. :soapbox:
I replaced the stator with a known good one, installed brand-new spark plugs, emptied the gas tank (3 weeks old), and put fresh premium in.
Back to the water today.
FINALLY!!!! Finally nice & reliable brapple to go! :brap:
With the new porting and the single Full Spec, the power is just about identical to last year's setup with TL, VF2, and dual 44's. Obviously, the off-idle hit is not quite the same, but pretty close. I am running a lightened stocker FW and stock CDI with no rev limiter.
The topend pull is real nice, too. And I can hold it WOT, without trouble. :fingersx:
Anyhow, my goal with changing setups was to replace broken stuff, sell some expensive things to fund my trip to pismo, and most of all, to go to a reliable, yet powerful setup.
Looking good so far.
I was getting pretty upset by this time.
