going 760cc (84mm) - 61x or 62t resleeved vs 64x

I'm currently running a ported 701... planning to upgrade this winter to a 760cc. What do you think would be a better way to go... and why:

1. Resleeve an old 61x cylinder I have laying around or look for a 64x cylinder?

2. Will the 64x cylinder run on my OEM 62t cases or would the cases need to be worked?

3. Which cylinder (61x resleeved or 64x) would offer the best performance for freestyle/freeride - bottom end grunt (I'm not interested in WOT)?

4. Or should I look for a 62x cylinder to go 760cc with?

thanks for the feedback.

You'll get recommendations to go both ways on this.

***I KNOW*** my Lehr 760 - 61x resleeved/ported - runs awesome, as do many other people, it's a proven performer and reliable. Pancake, yamaslut, myself, and tons of people have it and it's a solid engine.

I also know there are people that have 64x 760's running strong, but I've never ridden one to compare.

I also know someone on here will say get a 4mm stroker from Jetworks.

If it were my money, I'd go with something that is a proven performer that I've ridden before.

That's what I was thinking too. I've ridden a Team Scream ported 85mm 61x cyl motor and loved it. But just wanted to hear some other opinions besides what I thought. I will most likely stick with the 61x resleeve... since I already own the cylinder (which has a cracked sleeve anyway). But it's always nice getting some different thoughts. My Lehr ported 701 is great... so I am thinking a Lehr ported 61x 760 would rock too.

Thanks for the info Darin.

Look for a used lamey cylinder

I would love to go that route, but I am also trying to go 760 on somewhat of a budget. Wanting to use my existing OEM crank etc.

i've owned/ridden both.. a 61x cyl punched out, and a 62t 760 cyl based motor.. . most people will tell you punch out the 61x.. so, just avoid the arguing and go that way.

i have my own reserved opinion on this matter since i've actually built/owned both motor combos.

Do tell... I am interested in all input on this... that's why I started this thread.

Probably the best advice is to come to Lanier in 2 weeks, you'll have the opportunity to ride just about every combination there is and make your decision. Oh, and Paul is there so you can leave your parts with him to save the shipping.

I know... I really should get back down there. Maybe I can talk the wifey into a road trip. I know I could easily get Jason and Donnie to make the trip too. Let me see what I can do...

Frosty, As long as you not using more than a 5mm stroker, Big bore the 61X cylinder!

Cool... Thanks Chuck. I am still going through your recommended list of mods... basically waiting for the OK from the financial advisor (wifey) on everything. I'll call ya when all is decided.

Old thread but same questions here.

He is running the 44's, but on a LPW ported 701, well 1mm over so... I dont remember the size, stock bore. His ski rips, well maybe it's the -9" pole that makes it seem that way. LOL Kinda too twitchy for me. We were just discussing the difference boats have Sat. Mine seems the same but he is running port work, reeds, reed spacer, 44's, 33cc domes, TS ported Mod pipe, and lightened stock flywheel, that I didn't have last year. It has way more power than mine, Mine is a Mod pipe non ported, with 38's, and 35cc domes, both have enhancers. His seems to me to run stronger than most other 701 I have ever ridden. Again remember that power seem more powerfull when the boat feels uncontrolable, so this is just my opinion. Considering I am taking my boat to where his is currently, except for the +1mm over, should prove this out after the ice melts. Justin is running a 701 with TS port work and limited ported pipe. Not sure what else hopefully he will chime in. A few people seem to think Justins has more low end than mine. Eric, Pat, Josh, Steve, Aron, Adam, Nick, Justin, etc, we have all been swapping boats back and forth and giving each other feed back.
