Factory pipe manifold???

The diameter of the top of my manifold is 42mm and the diameter of the headpipe is 47mm. I can only assume what I have is a 650 manifold which probably explains why my ski didn't run like it should.
Anyway, in order to bring it up to 701 specs I know I will have to get it bored. Will the exhaust ports need any porting or is the 650 ports the same as the 701?

ive seen the b pipe manifolds not match the headpipes.... even in brand new sets. post a pic of the manifold where it bolts to the cylinder. they are visually different.

The 701 exhaust gasket does match the manifold ports.

A true 650 FPP manifold will have smaller exhaust ports. They can be opened up though.

No, not really. I've done one (matched to a 760 no less) and the casting itself doesn't appear to be any different.
Plenty wall strength left.

seriously? ive never done it... ive only compared with gaskets. maybe theres plenty of metal left, but where the 2 mating surfaces come together, its a thin line. is it not?

No problem. Since I done that manifold I have found flap wheel disk as course as 40 grit and with that you might not need a $20 reamer. Just a 40 grit wheel and a 150 grit then polish it with something like 600 or 800 and you would be great.

I just finished opening it up to 47mm. It didn't take long at all. I didn't take too much off the inside where these manifolds tend to crack just below the threaded hole that runs all the way through. It is pretty thin there already. All I need to do now is get the sanding disk and clean it up a little and find a ski to put it on....:banghead:
