Electrical Issue...

yeah you should be able to run it as a total loss too if you want to bang off the magnets and remove the stator. i think it would be better because it runs off the battery and you should have less problem solving with electrical. if the stator goes bad it will just not charge the battery, the motor should still run. I think this is a much smarter way for the ignition to work vs the yamaha/older kawi style.

It will still run as long as the pick up coil/trigger (blue & green wires) is intact and in proper location.

I am having issues also, no spark -- pretty much think it's the CDI. we have a 2003 and a 2004 SXR, The CDI's are different. interesting to see how you swap works.

where did you get your parts?

If you have no spark on the 03 it's most likley the stator. I had the charge coils (purple & red wires) go out on my 03 at about 75hrs. Check to see if thoses wires give you a open curcuit with a multi meter

DJ, just did the inverse of what you are doing. My 2004 has no spark, but I had a 2003 box and stater, so I threw it in pretty quick and

we had spark -- runs like a champ!

Dammit. I am still having the same problem. It starts sometimes and sometimes it just clicks.

Starter, Bendix or Battery?

(place your bets! place your bets!)

Hey DJ, it sounds alot like a starter going out, minus the actual clicking sound. I has an old starter that would sometimes turn fine, and sometimes do nothing at all. Did you make sure to clean all the connection up good for the power and ground wires?

I am gonna check it out tomorrow.. I am gonna try to jump start it first (that will eliminate the battery)

I tried to jump the celenoid. (not that)

I am guessing starter at this point. My battery is only one year old.

I forgot!
i have seen starter motor seize up over the off season. take it apart and give it some love. also batteries that sit around will eat the plates to the contacts so the battery will have lots of juice in it but it can't discharge it when a heavy draw is being made. try another battery too.
