electrical box help...screwed up spark...

SXR-FOREVER

Alright I bought a motor not to long ago and finally got it in my ski.

Check to see if there was spark (with the plug on ne of the acorn nuts on the head) and there wasn't so I let off the start button and as soon as I let go it sparked once or twice.

Tried it again and with the button down it wont spark then as soon as I let go it sparks once...

Did this multiple times with the timing light on it and it flashes once as soon as the button is release...

any ideas????????

The pulse wire may be hooked up wrong.
Download the MSD Enhancer instructions and make double-sure that it's hooked up correctly.
If it is and you still have this problem, try another stator.

sounds good I'll take it apart next time I have a chance.

Does the power for the spark come from the battery or the stator?

reason I ask is could it be the battery not charged enough? Its cranking it over pretty quick..so maybe not. :):):):) I hate electrical :):):):).

Power comes from the battery.

That's not your problem, though. Enhancers are notorious for the very problem you are describing. It's either not hooked up correctly, or the stator is not 100% (even though it'll work with a stock CDI!), or the Enhancer is going out.

^^^^^^^^LAME

I just went and put the msd into a immaculate SJ box I had and its still doing the same thing except it sparks once or twice right when I hit the button and then nothing.

Going to try new plugs and a stock CDI tomorrow.

Damn it.

Side note...do you need to keep the temp sensor hooked up to the MSD?? or can I just cut the temp sensor wires and get rid of it so its not being an annoyance?

The stator will work with a stock CDI, but apparently the MSD is more picky. Doesn't mean it's necessarily busted, so don't toss it.

i would try the paperclip rick to override the start/stop switch. i tore my ski apart chasing the MSD and it ended up being the switch.

I had the exact same problem the first time I installed an MSD enhancer, one of the wires was hooked up wrong (forgot which one, had an old revision of the instructions for some reason that told me to hook it up wrong) got the new instructions from MSD, swapped a wire and it worked fine. Either that or your MSD took a dump?

Well the only two I am confused where they go would be the two whites and the two greens. Do they matter??

I want my kawi electrics back....

But I'll be at it again friday. Got to get through my last midterms over the next two days. I'll let you guys know what I find out.

The greens are AC current from the stator and are converted to DC through your rectifier, it doesn't matter which way they go.

I don't remember off the top of my head what the white wires are, isn't one for the start circuit?

One white wire is coming from the stop switch harness (white & black).
There should be a white with red stripes from the stator (pulser)

I had the same thing happen to me this last summer. I thought my MSD failed because the stock CDI worked. Went to install a new CDI and it did the same thing only sparked when you let off the start button. Put the stock CDI back in and fired right up.
It was my stator that was bad and I had thrown away a perfectly good MSD. Make sure you test everything; it’s not always the CDI that is the culprit.
