Super Jet cylinder sleeve removal (the big cook off)

getting ready to remove a set of sleeves and had a couple of questions that I couldn't find here.

1. what tempature? (mine goes to 11... 550F :)

2. will the oil cook off make my house smell? (should I move this project to the grill)

3. any thoughts on a tool/drift to use on pressing the sleeves out (assuming they don't just fall out)

Thanks for the input.

I've never done it.

Annealing temp for aluminum is on the low end of 650 so 550 should be alright
wash cylinder first, turn off the hood vent and open a window
I would try oven at 300 let the heat soak in for 30 minutes
place the cylinder on concrete outside upside down and fill the bore with ice, lift cylinder off. If cylinder does not come off try using a plywood plug cut to the sleeve outer bore - a few thou and push it out. 4 or 6 hands would be best
dry liner to prevent rust, unless the liner is toast

About 400-450 degrees, set the cylinders upside down on a couple of bricks so the liners can slide out, I would move it outside to the grill unless the old lady is gone for a week.Tap the liners with a mallet, plastic hammer or dead blow hammer or a block of wood and a hammer, if they don't pop out either the temp is too low or you didn't heat it long enough, give it at least 10-15 min of heating before trying to remove and don't open the door to check it as it lowers the heat considerably.

use the barbee mate, crank it up and let it heat all the way up to 450/500 and let her bake for 20-30 mins and they shouls slide out. Welding gloves HIGHLY recomended.

Follow up on sleeve removal. I've included a bunch of pics to help those that may have never attempted this. Actually, really quite easy assuming you've dismantled your motor correctly. Note, after you've shoved a rag in your exhaust port to stop the piston/crank from moving and removed your flywheel DON'T remove the head and cylinders at this point. REMEMBER to remove the drive coupler as well, that way you won't have to put everything back together again :aargh4:

1. I cleaned the cylinders real well so they wouldn't stink up the house when I cooked them
2. got a set of pavers I had left over from a yard project and through em in the oven at 450 F
3. set the cylinders on the pavers in such a fashion that the sleeves could drop out (I read they might) they didn't
4. used my head as a guide to setup my post cook off stand/pressing area
5. used a piece of hard wood to smack the bottom of the sleeve (to be honest I just touched it with a mallet and they fell right out)
6. end of story and ready to ship to Jetmaniac/Blue for Big Bore sleeves and porting :wiggle:

on a final note, I cooked the cylinders at 450 F for 20 minutes and the sleeves dropped right out with the slightest touch of a mallet. Next person might want to try cooking for a shorter time. Maybe 15 minutes.
