SX/SXi/SXi Pro Cracked "water-cooled muffler"

Alright, so I'm away from home and a buddy of mine took my 1992 750sx to a shop to get fixed. The shop said the "water-cooled muffler" is cracked and needs to be replaced. Is that the waterbox or what? I'm familiar with car engines, and not this because it's never really needed anything. How hard of a job is this? The place quoted $500 for the total fix ($250 part and $250 labor). What do you guys think? I only paid $900 for the ski, so $500 seems steep; especially if I can do it myself.

Thanks

No, just pull the exhaust chamber and manifold off. It is a tight fit but the waterbox will come out without pulling the motor. If it gives you a bunch of trouble its easy to pull the motor out as well. Look for a aluminum waterbox to put in if you have a fiberglass one in it now. For 500 bucks you could pick up a aftermarket exhaust and waterbox to gain some power while your at it.
