Coil Problem??

I have a 61x that's missing when you hit the throttle. When you slowly pull throttle it will gradually rev up but will still miss. The reeds all look fine. I pulled the plugs and the rear plug looked great, the front however looked black and sooty.

Is the coil going bad? Are the plug wires shot??

BTW, this is a MSD coil.

Can you replace the plug wires the same way you can in a stock coil??

The MSD coil wires usually are booted to the coil unlike stock coil that is epoxied into the coil. I know my MSD coil is like that.

Have you tried cutting the wires back?

bad spark plug boot had same symptons on superjet was the plug boot, put on ngk boots from local marina 5 dollars each worked great

The wires have been cutback and there's really not enough left to cut any more off. I could probably go another 1" and that's it...
