Why not find a used SJ for a donor ski? Piece by piece gets expensive fast and you could sell the hull when your done and make a little money back..

i was consdering that, but im planning on building the ski up over a period of time while im away in the military so if i could i would prefer to do it with all new or guaranteed good parts, but dont get me wrong if a good donor ski pops up local to my parents house (where the hull and parts will be stored while im away) i might try and pick it up.

I agree with what Just4fun said. Buying all brand new parts is great if you can afford it but gets really expensive fast. Trust me. If you buy all new youll probably end up spending 2-3 times as much as just buying a donor. Id save up and buy a good used ski. What are your plans flat or surf?

this build is probably gonna stretch longer than a year seeing as i will be at a duty station away from home for 2 years so im going to attempt to stretch it out and get as much new as i can, but if a good deal comes up on a potential donor i would grab it up if i had the cash, as for plans its mainly going to be flatwater, but will see the surf whenever possible

Save some cash and just get the BB motor. "Learning" on a small motor then getting a bigger motor down the rode is wasting more money. I 2nd finding a good donor ski for parts...you can even sell the motor and make more money back toward your build.

Or keep saving up the cash in the bank and let it do a little work for you, when you return state side purchase all the parts you need and then build your ski. Parts sitting in your parents garage are only gonna depreciate and collect the dust. Anyway you go...good luck with the build! Sounds like it'll be a fun ski!

Used saved cash for gas, 2 stroke oil, and beers
