Sorry, but I didn't really want to post this in "Buyer/Seller Feedback - Negative" because it's not really a negative feedback, at this point it's just a neutral dispute.
I'm not going to say who the other party is. He is free to add his input if he desires. I'm looking for a resolution that amicable to both parties.
So, here's the situation:
I found an add for a cylinder and WSM pistons (.50mm over) for $150. I PM'd him to see if it was still available. He said yes, make an offer I sent him my email for some pics and an offer of $150 shipped. He said he can't do it because he now has had it honed and it has new rings and gasket set. I told him I don't have much money, what can you sell it for. He said $250 shipped. I thought, "ok, rings are about $40 and hone and gasket set (not OE) would add up to more than $60, so ok, I'll take it.
Parts arrive and I notice that the gasket set is opened and missing exhaust and carb gaskets. Ok, no big deal, I'll just get those from Jetmaniac since I need a b-pipe gasket anyway. The piston pins looked pretty crappy, so I ordered new pins. I opened the rings and made sure the gap wasn't too big in the cylinder, ok so far. Ordered new wrist pin bearings, but that was my choice for a little extra insurance.
Wrist pins arrive and I go to install pistons and find that the wrist pins are way too long. Here's where I start to do some research on the PN on top of the piston (635P2). I find it is an older Wiseco. Ok, that's kinda cool. I thought I got WSM pistons, and actually got Wisecos. But, now I found I needed to order Wiseco wrist pins (way more than the OE ones I ordered). Now I have all of them and I start to assemble again. I find that the pistons will not fit into the bore with the rings installed. Like I said, gap was good. I removed the rings and I see where the locating pin has marked the end of the ring. These obviously don't fit the Wisecos. So now I need to order Wiseco rings, even more $.
Here's the break down of the $ spent:
Top end as described - $250 shipped.
New Yamaha wrist pins - $30 shipped (trying to sell them, but can't return)
Wrist pin bearins - $10 shipped (but this was my choice)
Gaskets - $24 shipped (but this included my b-pipe gasket too)
Wiseco wrist pins - $43 shipped
Wiseco rings - $82 shipped
Total= $439 (includes all of the above)
This last $82 seriously cuts into my budget because I already have all of my expenses written down for the wife. This is tough because I'm unemployed and trying to get this ski running again for at least a little enjoyment. I really want to have it done by end of August for some upcoming events.
Like I said, I'm looking for some thing that satisfies both parties. I think he sold everything with the best of intentions. He did have this advertised on PWC-T also, and he did describe the gasket set missing exhaust gasket there. But I didn't find that add until after I had the parts (and started to explore why).
Thanks for your opinions!
