Buy a brand new ski?

Have you weighed your options as to what you can get used for the same price. I know that people like to buy new but I bought a NEW SJ in 2001 and it was the worst investment I have ever made. I put $5000 in the ski to make it more of what I wanted and then after 4 years sold it for 1/3 the price I had in it. THAT is a BAD investment.

New skis are not good deals unless you can keep them for a long time. It is getting a lot harder to find good used ones now.

like these guys are saying.... take a look at the 2004-2008 used superjets for sale - if you find one with low hours you'll probably save thousands and still have the reliability of a new ski

I just bought a new 09 Superjet on ebay for $5900 OTD, so $5500 before tax/reg, which is about what used 08 and 09s are going for.

Sure used can be cheaper, but if I am going to spend $4500 for a used one, I rather spend another $1000 and have piece of mind it was broken in correctly, treated well, not beached, and basically taken care of.

Everybody is different because if I spend close to $6000 on a ski it better be at least have a stroker motor with about every add on you can buy. I would take about 6k for my ski and it cost more than that to build the motor, not counting that other 4g's that it took to build it up to be a capable machine. So there would be no way I could see spending that on a stock ski.

THis is true. But it is your work. Half the fun of this hobby (to me anyway) is building up your own ski.
