Broken Clavicle. Pavement hurts

So on 9/17/2008 i was involved in a motorcycle accident. Most of which was my fault but partially theres.

End result i hit the ground doing about 55mph accelerating. Instant to hitting the ground my shoulder was the first to hit. on impact i broke my left collarbone. after the break i rolled a few times, broke my ring finger and rashed up my arms and legs. I picked up my bike and insisted the police not come and took off. about 3 miles away i went into shock and had to stop riding.

20 min later i am picked up by my buddy and my other friend. they take me to the hospital. first thing performed was a sonogram to check for internal bleeding. i was not bleeding but internally bruised as well. if i dident wear my helmet or THICK leather icon jacket i would have been damaged severly and would have been in serious condition. my helmet was cracked and gauged all over from banging the ground, my jacket torn pretty sever.

Im pissed i will not be able to ride /ride hard at wavedaze 2008. i was looking forward to showing up the tricks ive been practicing all summer.


as for the bike it just needs some plastic peices and clutch lever and she will be set to go.

I will be out of riding hard for 6-8 weeks. my arm is still not to mobile as i would like. i wanna push it but im told to just rest this since it cant be casted. well i guess luckey its only this bad.

thank god for your helmet and jacket, i see a lot of sport bike riders with no jackets , shorts , no one wears gloves, you need protection on a bike, when i was your age it was easier riding bikes, nowadays to many cars and dumb dirvers , i have been hit on motorcycles a couple of times. to bad you are riding the superjet really great, you will heal fast you are young and strong

Awww, that is too bad about the collar bone....looks like you did a number. Also the worst part is that you aren#t going to be able to show your tricks like the ones that I got to see on Crystal Beach......

Dude, consult an orthopedic and have it plated. I've broken both shoulders. (one in dirt and one on street) One is plated the other is not. Night and day difference. wish I had done both. and you'll be up and ridin in 3 weeks. just mo. Good luck

i think it might be too late for that... i have my 2nd orthopedic check up monday.

did you ask them to plate it?

Yea, relookin at your post I see it happened on the 17th. It might be too late. I went into surgery within 5 days after I broke mine. The Emergency room here refered me to the Ortho, And he suggested it due to the severity of the break. broke it in like 3 places.

Lookin at your pics brings back sad memories. how do you like sleepin at night? Roll over in your sleep yet only to wake up screaming in severe PAIN. Sucks big time! I feel for ya man. But dont worry bout it too much. Before ya know it you'll be your olself again. I am!:bananapowerslide:

and yeah i hate rolling over forgetting about it and be like AHIAHDHASKLDASD and the pain throbs like hell. it sucks im out of meds

It was Batavia back then. The old track. I hear they moved it since then. Heck that had to be back in 92 or 93 I think? Damn I'm old! :doh:

haha, I broke my collarbone riding a moped (stuntriding I tell people). That sucker almost poked through my skin.To this day (10 years later) it looks worse than yours but it is healed.

My orhto told me they don't do anything for collarbones "if they are in the same room they will heal together just fine..."
It never gives me problems, just a little uncomfortable when wearing a seat belt. It was a solid 4 weeks before I felt I could try to do anything real active.

My other shoulder I separated (grade 3) playing hockey. I tried to rush back after 4 weeks and ended up making things much worse. I wasn't right for about 6 months.

broken collar bones suck . i broke mine racing dirt bikes as well . they didnt even x-ray mine . yep it broken see you lata was all i got .
i was back on my bike 4 weeks lata . they heal pretty quick

lol thats what happened when i broke my collar bone on my dirtsicle :bigok:

hope it heals quick man, it took me 10 weeks cause i rebroke it being stupid.

Damn, brother, sorry to hear that. Just saw the post. I took a spill doing about 50MPH a few years ago, wasn't seem by a lady backing out of her drive. Laid the bike down, slide about 50' on my shoulder, and legs. I was lucky.. Nothing but a helmet and I just got some serious road rash.
That gear is a life saver. Damn good thing you were sporting that Icon jacket. They are NICE.. Sounds like it did it's job!
I was just taking a quick spin to the shop to assemble my new fairings, etc.. The bike was basically invisible with no color, no lights, no gauges, etc.. Just a chunkk of metal doing 50MPH. Otherwise I might have been seen. Lesson learned.

dayum man! glad you were suited up. It sucks to lay a bike down but it is even worse when you can't do anything but look at it for weeks.

I am not so good at teh two-wheeled apparati either. four weeks ago i drove off my bike in Chicago to avoid hitting a car. My shoulder (though medically fine) still hurts...and i can't do certain throws playing frisbee golf.

Just glad you're ok bro! take your time and heal up for daytona!!
