Bob + engine < 2010 SJ?

I know i'm drunk, but am i crazy?

I was looking at the post concerning the new BOB hull and got to thinking . . .

BOB hull is $3500

I'm guessing that a nice trick engine can be had for < $3500

and a 2010 SJ is > $7000.

I can bypass all the BS fiberglass work and engine tuning . . . (not to mention some of the cost of tools)

I am not trying to endorse the BOB hull or sling turds at Yamaha . . .

I am thinking that all this re-enforcing, modifying and engine stuff is not as much fun as riding.

So the topic is - Can a complete custom ski by purchased for less than a 2010 SJ?

your in the ballpark but the pole, pump and the rest of the bits and pieces will add up.i think it would be hard to build a complete ski from scratch even using some used parts for less than 10K

Plus the BOB hull looks like it is designed to ride with only one thing in mind.....a backflip....

Looks nose high all the time maybe.....

I have ridden skis that are nose high all the time and it sucks IMHO.

Tough to beat a SJ hull.......maybe that is why the Rickter is so successful and comfortable to pepes....it is a refined SJ hull (at least the parts that actually make contact with the water while riding), right?

You could easily have a B.O.B. and engine/pump setup for less than 10K. Swap all your SN stuff over and grab a lowered pole bracket and RN pole and you're good to go. Throw in another $1200 for TL, new prop, head and bpipe and you're flatwater freestyle ready. You could make it an even $3000 to include all those parts and some professional engine work (bore/port/pistons/epoxy) and you're set for a total investment of about $8000. ($1500 your ski + $3500 B.O.B. + $1200 parts + $1800 engine work).

With a $2 Doner ski that comes with some mods you can easilly have a BOB pr Stunt hull with a Limmitted / slightly modded motor & pump setup for $7K. You just have to decide that this is what you want.
But these do not come WORK FREE Bro. There are mods to be made to every hull not just Stock hulls. Turf, Mounting the pole, lining the motor up and so forth. NO hull is plug and play accept the OEM SJ left stock.
But if shorter / wider and lighter is the goal then it is worth it. IMO you will be giving up some strength for these assetts unless you spend more on the hull (like 4500 to 5K).

yeah but you can easily find a nice used sj...with b-pipe for 3-4K.... new superjets are way overpriced....

and building a ski from scratch you will be nickel and dimed to 8-9K easy....

the op was comparing building a NEW ski vs buying a 2010 sj so sure if you dont mind using mostly used parts you could do it cheaper but i wil not go that route again. Also i dont think the op was talking about a limited motor either.

If you want to do it right with big power plan on spending 10k minimum

the point of the B.O.B. was being able to get "big motor freestyle tricks" out of a less pricey setup. The flipside of that is that you have to have atleast some skill to backflip and no hull can make up for poor skills. Over the last few years I can honestly say that I've had great luck at buying used SJ parts here on the X and not once have I bought a used part that was "chit." There's no way in hell that I'd buy a brand new TL setup or plenty of other parts. The costs are wayyyyy to high for brand new parts when you can search here, PWC, Ebay, CL and others for parts. You can buy bolt-on parts to hopup your stock engine and get plenty of zip out of it to rip on a B.O.B. U can be ripped off no doubt, but just ask around and know who you're dealing with before you buy a pricey item.

if you have the cash on hand to pay for a 2010 superjet just shop the boards, it might take awhile but you will be able to find a NICE ski for that much cash....

It's not nose high just for backflips. Although we were aiming to have backflips being affordable, the hull rides the way it does because it pops out of the water so much easier then any other hull I've ridden. It's nose high for the right reasons, and it handles good. When you come up to the set up wake, the hull is launching. It's a totally different kind of 'nose high'.

NO hull is plug and play accept the OEM SJ left stock.
The BOB hull is. Just drop in a motor, pump and pole. :veryhappy:
