Are Fixed Steers Better?

Location

Looking to build a fixed steer to alleviate back injury pain. Pole skis are unridable. Please share your experiences with pole skis vs fixed steers.

Do you have to crouch too low to make it comfortable on the back / long rides? Anyone try a 4 Stroke SXR or SJ fixed steer?

Fixed steers are easier on the back for sure. You can adjust the steering location to fit your needs. Im looking to make a steering head that is adjustable fore and aft on the fly. The new jumbo fourstrokes should make good fixed steer skis.

That’s brilliant. Any progress on that front or sketches? I think the Seadoo Spark Trixx had a good adjustable up and down handlebar setup that would go lovely for longer standup rides

It’s a steering stem on a rack with a motorized jack screw. The main issues are getting the rack tight enough and finding a suitable motor.

Depends if you have a farm than I would say no because more Steer the better. In town where I live one Steer is enough, they are big and peer over our fence, neighbors starting to act weird and don't get me started on the smell.

So here is my take.

Fixed steers are comfy once you are up on them, but if you are jumping on waves/surf the impact on your hands is pretty harsh (yes, suspension steering makes it better but it's still brutal compared to a pole)

But the other thing to consider is mounting them once you fall off, if you are on an inland lake you can take your time and balance back up on the rear.

But if you are looking to quickly mount you are gonna be side loading and that does require some muscles to pull your self up every time.
