I was talking to robert at www.jetskimechanic.com the other day and he was in the process of putting together a budget freestyle motor package for the 701 motor. Here is what he has come up with so far.

"Well I worked on the Yamaha Freestyle motor first and that price is $2095.00 for a Low end Power Grunt Freestyle Build!!! You send in either a 61X or 62T motor and we will do the following: Bore the cylinders to the 82.5 0r 83mm big bore, Freestyle porting to the cylinder, Freestyle case porting and stuffing, Modify the stock head for race or pump gas, 2-Wiseco Big bore pistons, Complete gasket and seal kit, Rebuild and true and weld crankshaft, complete assemble of the motor and pressure test for leak down! If you want to up-grade to ADA Gridle head add $250.00, Add carbon fiber reeds $119.95, RIVA intake spacer add $59.95. You can always email me to discuss the possibility!"

I think this is a good option for some people because it includes the crank rebuilding which a lot of people work up a $3000 motor and then forget they are also going to need a new crank because theirs is 10 years old. Also nice because you just send him you whole motor and he sends you back a complete producted pressured checked and ready to go. Just wanted to put this out there for anyone looking into motor options.

Pretty sure the going rate for cylinder porting is around $300 and the going rate for boring the cylinder and going over one bore is usually around $90-$150 from my experience. Wiseco pistons aren't cheap but if you can't find a deal on them, they're $360 on Wiseco's website for the kit. You'll need new gaskets so figure another $50-$100 tops. You can trade in a trashed crank for a rebuilt one for under $200. The way I see it, if you take worst case scenario, you're looking at $1100 for all the work minus case porting (I don't know what that costs). Now I know I left out assembly (easy), case porting, and crank true and welding but at $2095 for a ported engine with a modified stock head, reeds, intake, and carbs seems REALLY high and FAR from a "budget freestyle engine"...

I've never dealt with 'jetskimechanic' but I think you should call some of the other engine builders on here and see what they'll do first.

Lastly, I always thought the big bore was technically anything over 84mm and that the term big bore typically was associated with different sleeves unless you are talking about the budget big bore which is the 64x cylinder.

those prices seem pretty high to me too...a jetworks big bore kit is around 1250$. thats sleaves, resleave, porting and pistons... his 4 mill stroker kits start at around 2600$ too i believe...

I was looking into the jetmaniac motor for $1500, but I bought a complete low hr 62t bottom and will get ported 61x cylinders and a ProX top end from him in a few months.

To be honest Jetskimechanic is pricey - been there done that.

Jetworks seems a better alternative, especially becuase he is doing this for decades not 3 seasons!
