650 Sj Help!!

Hey guys, just joined the forum!
I recently purchased a 1992 SJ with a 650 bored with new pistons and everything to be about 680. R&D exhaust, pro tech ride plate, stainless steel prop, K&N air filter, bilge and in the middle of putting on some new turf mat.
Still breaking in the motor but thing hauls!

But i seem to be having some electrical problems. So i need some help!
SJ turns over but doesnt wanna start, put new plugs, fresh gas, re watered the battery and tried using starter fluid but doesnt wanna start.
Tried to see if plugs where getting power and dont seem to be getting any.
Check the inline fuse and is in good condition.
Any advice on what to do next? Should i check anything specific?

Thanks for your help, Dave!:Banane35:

One wise man on here once told me to start with the simple stuff.

Disconnect the "STOP" switch at the plug by the electrical box and try again.
If it starts and runs, plug it back in and it should shut off.

If that's the case than it's either the stop switch or the wiring for it.

Boris beat me to the same advice. Also just FYI the stop switch is the Black and White wires. The Red and Brown are the start circut they have a diconnect inside the engine area you just need to follow the leads.

HA, thanks guys. That did the trick! Plus it saved my weekend...
Next time you guys are in my area, a cold one is on me!

But now how do i go on about replacing the switch?
Do i purchase a new start/stop switch or do they sell the stop switch alone?
Any advice!?

Thanks again,
Dave

Before you replace anything, check the wires.
Look really close by the plug as they like to break right there.
Also, look inside the plug for corrosion.

cut off the connector from the start stop switch going in to the box and solder and heatshrink the wires in the box best way in my book
those connectors always gave me a problem get rid of them.
i did it to my new ski

I'm not a fan of that solution.
Prefer to keep the plugs at all costs.
Next time a switch goes bad you can unplug it, start the ski using your friends switch (beach the skis side by side and the wires will be long enough)and ride back to the boat ramp saving a long a$$ tow in.

SFLsurfrider: yeah i got it from the guy on craigslist.lol. hard to work a deal with, but got it for a good price, under what he was asking.

Big Dog: I will probably not solder anything because of what Boris said but thanks for your advice! Makes sense...

Boris: Thanks for your advice, will check the harness and switch. But probably will go ahead and change the switch anyways, since its only 8bucks to replace it. Safer!
Got any other advice on what else i should do to the ski?
