Freestyle 2025 WDK weapon build

This past month I finally pulled the trigger on a WDK RIP hull. I’ve been wanting to build one for as long as I can remember, it’s a true bucket list item for me. To some this will seem like an insanely expensive project and to others it will seem like I’m cutting costs at every opportunity, both are true. I hope to balance building an entry level flat water ski on a budget while also not saving a dollar now only to have to spend $2 later down the road to get to where I’m trying to go. My goal is to backflip this ski off a boat wake this summer.

The ski arrived in Vancouver, WA from Wisconsin last night and I have to say for my first ski shopping experience I was shocked how easy and affordable it was ($435), albeit a bit nerve racking.

The hull showed up in good used condition. It certainly has some nicks and chips but is overall in good condition. In a certain way I prefer it that way, so I won’t feel as bad for the beating it’s going to go through while I learn to flip.

Anyways on to the build.

Aesthetically it’s going to stay basically the same but I’m planning to remove the stickers. I’m not sure the proper terminology but the portion of fiberglass where the mid shaft bolts in (bulkhead?) has come loose and needs to be glassed back in.

Im going to be using 760 cases and cylinder, ADA head with high compression (planning to run AV gas), dual 38s and a b pipe (I’ve got both a limited chamber and carbon mod chamber I need to decide between) and zeeltronics. I’m going to be sending out the cylinder to Jr. at LPW later this week and waiting to hear what he recommends for engine work.

I bought the hull with an oem 155 pump and have sourced a skat swirl 5/10 prop for it. I’m curious to hear opinions on the pitch as I thought it when was still planning to run a 701.

Lastly I still need a few parts so please let me know if you have any of the following for sale.
-waterbox
-complete trim system
- Front hood pin
- Hood latch hull side
- Bilge outlet fitting (90 degree, exits hull vertically
- Start stop housing
- throttle
- Flame arresters
- Engine side coupler and rubber
- exhaust hoses from b pipe to waterbox and waterbox to bulkhead

The good- I’ve been scouring the use parts for sale on here and fb groups and found a start stop switch, coupler, starter and jet maniac waterbox.
The bad- in talking to paul at LPW I realized the 760 cylinder I picked up doesn’t have stock porting. Looks like someone was in there doing some minor porting. So now I’m a bit stuck, not sure if this cylinder can still be ported further or if I need to pivot and go a different route. I’d love to hear if you all think this can still be ported further or if I need to just move on. I’m thinking if I don’t end up moving forward with the 760 cylinder I may just buy the 61x ported top end kit from jet maniac for the time being.

Anyways I’m still looking for the parts

My suggestion , send it out to Paul and let him have a look at it , without specific measurements on port heights and widths no one here can tell you about the porting on that cylinder , Paul can measure it out and tell you if it will work for you or not or if it can be ported further.

Yeah, you are talking to Paul, who is one of the best in the business. Honestly, dont come asking for advice on that, you are going to get alot of correct and wrong advice!!!!!! Like Terry said, Nobody can tell you about the porting by a picture. Send it to Paul.

Edit. not trying to be an ass with the "dont come asking for advice" comment. This is like asking the smartest man in the business a question, then going to ask the dumbest expecting a better answer!!!!!!!!! looking forward to the rest of your build.

It’s all good. I guess I was just hoping for some reassurance that I wasn’t sending it all the way over there when it was clearly not going to work out. Sounds like 1 it’s not possible to know for sure without taking measurements and 2 it’s not so clearly licoriceed that I shouldn’t send it.

I might have these... I'll check later and get back. I'm pretty sure the throttle cable is a beefy one that I just chose not to use. The midshaft bolts are socket cap, and I have a variety of lengths. I want to say OEM is 25 or 30 mm (I have a list I can check, also later), but I've seen it vary in A/M hulls. If you know what you need here, say so. I bought a bunch of this stuff from McMaster, where you get like 25 but only need 3, so I've had spares. Again, I'll check ...

A few dollars spent on shipping is probably the best investment you are ever going to make on this ski !

Nothing too exciting to report but I got the ski to Jeff @ wdk for a repair on the bulkhead and cylinder shipped off to LPW. Hopefully I’ll get some good news on the cylinder and be able to pick up the hull when I get back from a little spring break trip.

Updates and big change of plans-
When I pitched up the hull from Jeff he informed me that at ~250lbs, no freestyle experience and a small motor I was going to have a really difficult time riding the rip hull. He ended up taking me into having him build be a weapon that should be a much better hull for my situation. A major deciding factor was the fact that I have 2 small kids and really want to make the most of the time I get out on the water rather than be fighting a machine that was built for a guy 50lbs lighter than me. Anyways I’m stoked to see how the new hull turns out. If you guys have any ideas for an updated title I’m all ears. I was thinking something along the lines of “Too fat to rip-weapon build”

In other news I sent my cylinder to Jr. as you guys suggested and he was awesome to work with. Turns out what I had was a 62t bored to 84mm not actually a 760. The bore looked good and the port work was minor so he was able to hone and port the cylinder. It just showed up to the house last weekend along with some crank seals, a .010” base gasket, lites exhaust gasket, Ada domes to run ~205 psi and a y62t zeeltronics cdi. I decided to swap to 62t electronics for the updated zeeltronics system.

Anyways I’ve got a few more things to source but other than that it’s on me to get this engine put together!

Progress pics of the hull attached and I’ll include engine photos as it starts to come together.

I don't see a hull in those pics , I see a set of molds that haven't even been prepped to lay a hull up in yet, and you are dealing with Jeff , so yeah good luck on this.
