I currently own a 1992 550sx that is obviously reed inducted and im looking at a freshly rebuilt and really nice looking 1989 550sx. I've read around and seen some place that post-1987, the piston ported engine gained some power and is not much slower than the reed inducted 550's. Can someone give some input on this? Thanks.

When they changed the exhaust in 1986 to the Jet power exhaust which was designed by Westcoast they also bumped the carb to a 44mm carb, these were faster than the previous models, but IMHO the 550 PP engine pales in comparison to the 550 reed valve engine.
