1991 Super Jet mods

I have a 1991 SJ that I recently put a new 701 in a couple seasons ago. Other than the 701 engine, ride plate, intake grate, and prop it is stock. I want to add some components for some extra engine gains but do not want to get too extreme. I was thinking about dumping a factory b pipe, and Minuki SBN 44 carburetor into it. Any opinions or information on what might be my best options would be great.

If you already have an upgraded prop your next step should be a pipe of some kind...is this a 61X or 62T (single or dual carbed) 701?

Check out the thread stickie at the top of the SJ section for all mods for your ski.

With a properly tuned 61x/61x (which I'm assuming you have), a B pipe, Scat 12/17 or a Hooker 9/15 you will be very pleased with how snappy that setup is. It should already have a 44 Mikuni even if it's off the 650.

The 701 is a 61x. Yes you're right it is a 44 in there. It is a single, I just kept the same carb from the 650. My next step is going to put the b pipe, I'm hoping that will give me the extra power I am looking for. What is the difference between the Scat 12/17 and the Hooker 9/15?

The brand and the pitch, obviously. I've been told there is no constant system for measuring pitch and the numbers are meaningless outside of the manufacturers own line of props. Both of those props are designed for freestyle/freeriding.

I highly recommend propping up before pipe or at least at the same time. The stock SN prop SUCKS.

The Scat 12/17 props were the popular "freeride" prop before the Hooker props came out. I never ran a hooker prop so I can't really say anything about it other than a lot of guys like it. However the 12/17's still work very well with a limited setup. I run a 61x/61x, lightened flywheel, B pipe, ADA head w/35cc domes etc and I am very pleased with the power.

Right on, thanks for the info guys. I also have another question, a couple months ago I added to my fleet and picked up a 1992 completely stock SN for a good deal. It runs fine,I had to clean it up a bit though. It is going to be my project this winter. I am from Canada and don't know where I can find a brand new 701 61x, I'm guessing my best bet would be someplace from the States. Any suggestions where I could find one?

Look in the parts section on here or PWCT...there is always engines for sale. Other then that check CL in your area for a donor ski. If brand new/remanned is what you are looking for check SBT.

@JetManiac offers a bored, rebuilt 61x. I'm planning on swapping my 6m6 for one as soon as I've got the money saved up.

No question. Go with the hooker 9/15 before any other mods, you will thank me. The oem prop is your ski is terrible and wont work with more power anyways. I put a bpipe on a 701 with stock prop and it was almost unrideable.
