I just picked up another 1990 Kawasaki 550sx today and it has one problem I can figure out!

With the sparkplugs installed the motor will only turn over very very slow. Not even fast enough to start.

When I remove both sparkplugs the motor will turn over like normal!

What can cause this to happen???

It has a new battery and all connections seem to be good! The starter in it does not look stock......it is bright red in color!

Any help much appreciated!!

I got the starter out and apart. everything looked really clean!!

Anything I can do that may put the life back into her???

Does it look bad?

I know I should just get a new one and I will. I will have to wait a week for it to come in the mail but for the time being I would relly like to get this ski started to see if it may need some more work done!

when my 550 starter went out it would go about 5 turns slow at first then turn fast. eventuall always slow then click pop. when my batt is dead it will turn fast with plugs out and slow when they are in

Clean where marked. Make sure the big parts are cleaned to a shiny copper color (may need some emery colth) and the brushes should be a somewhat shiny carbon/silver color and SMOOTH where they contact the copper colored area's. Run on sentence but you know what I mean....
