home depot has some $8 gloves that hold up just as good as any of the ones ive ever used. personally, i think the wear and tear on gloves has more to do with the way theyre left to dry.

i would put a stainless or aluminum sleeve in the i.d of the smaller hose so the clamp has something solid to "stop" on instead of just rubber on rubber. itll work great!
