When I lived in Nebraska I would do the same thing you mention. I would put home made brass with 3mm hole restrictors and clamp them in the pisser line right before its exits the ski. Also, yes, pre-warm the ski up real good, cold seizures are a real thing..lol

@Quinc I have both of those hones and I prefer the ball hone myself. I think its easier to use and less chance of accidental damage compared to the long stone deglazer.
