I highly doubt as much if any. Plus a little splash of water dosen't hurt anything, but full submersion is bad. At least with it turned backwards you have that much longer until the whole carb setup ingests water if the ski is going down nose first.

Why only with 44's? What type of intake manifold are you running to be able use a OEM dual flame arrester? I'm guessing an OEM intake manifold?
