Yes highest rpm. Do it on the trailer with ski in the water so you have a load on the engine.
Tiny tach will not work they do not react fast enough.

Yes you read the ceramic where it comes out of the plug, should have a chocolate colored ring. You need a magnifying glass and a pen light but I would never tune an engine with this reading unless I had countless hours of tuning and plug inspection like Chuck or Randy at Team scream...
Plug chop is pretty hard to get results on these days you have to consider other chemicals in fuels from different refineries ethanol amounts etc. etc.
The best and only way to set your carbs is with a tachometer then you know they are tuned and delivering the proper amount of fuel. IMO.

I have never seen a pump in a SJ that the seal was not tight, sounds like your pins may be keeping the pump from compressing the seal.
It should be tight. the only thing I have ever put on a seal was just a little grease to keep it fresh.

Yep new xB 22 city 28 HWY. 2.4 Liter. Man did they ruin a good thing. :dunno:
