I think the solenoids come in the closed position, so they wouldn't help. There are brass barbs that accept main jets... I'm not sure who sells them, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.

I don't think the tip shape has anything to do with the power (weather you use the stock screws or tap it for your own screws). However, if your custom threads have a higher pitch, you'll need to open it fewer turns. After about 3/4 turns on the stock screws, the water is flowing freely...

I have an OEM crank that sounds like rollerskate bearings, it's not rusty though.
