Get some heat shrink butt connectors, you crimp them then heat them , they have an adhesive inside so the connection is then totally sealed from the elements.

A couple of weeks back I was riding and some guy kept putting around on an old Waveraider, when I came in to put it up he comes over and says hey I haven't ever seen anything jump out of the water like that before,is that some kind of trick ski? I replied why yes it certainly is.
