Two things, check the teeth on the ring gear, most people don't know this but the flywheel stops in one of two places every time, that puts extra wear on the teeth in those areas causing the bendix to kick out prematurely, a weak Bendix spring can also cause this phenomenon.

Total length of the cable, diameter of cable(5mm,6mm etc), throw of the cable(how far the inner cable extends out of the outer cable) and they need to know what ferrules and ends you need on the cable(barrell ends etc), you should be able to get most of this either off your old cable or by doing...

You don't need a special gun to shoot gelcoat with, use a nozzle designed for shooting house paint and you will do just fine, also if you want to cut down dramatically on the sanding time mix in Duretec clear 50/50 with the last coat of Gelcoat, it reduces sanding time by at least half.
